Faylinda’s students have a two week research project during which they will apply the Research Process. They will present March 24-31.
Students will apply these resources:
- Oxford Art Database (use MackinVia to access.)
- At least one more of the following databases to gather additional context and primary sources: EbscoHost (or Explora), J-STOR, Gale World History in Context, Proquest E-Book Central (use MackinVia to access.)
- Library Books which may include these works from H-B’s shelves or books obtained by Inter-library Loan from other APS schools. Obtain such proactively!
- Magazines the library subscribes to: Juxtapoz or American Art (optional)
- E-how “What is non-Western Art?” (extracted onto your paper assignment.)
- “Major Cultures of the Non-Western World”: https://helen.iglouhost.com/NonWesternArt/Documents/NWArt_MajorCultures.pdf <– 1-page overviews of each region’s artistic focus to develop your over-arching question and focus questions.
- Videos in Discovery Education can be useful. Ask for a demonstration of how to search. <– access from Rapid Identity.
- While there are numerous broken links, some resources listed from Helen’s course are packed. Ask for Maggie’s “navigator” paper handout highlighting routes in to the best of the best. Importantly…
- Helen’s links to art museum pages for you to locate primary sources (images of artwork from the Non-Western world) are repeated on the bottom of H-B’s Library General Research Guide for Art.
Composition of your slide show:
- The caption beneath each work of art presented must include in teeny tiny font a complete MLA citation if the source was a book or library database. Your citation can be simplified for other sources, but include the URL, please.
- Optional: Consider applying NoodleTools to create your source list, gather your images and export from it a perfect bibliography. It’s easy to access NoodleTools and get started.
- Optional: Last slide of show can include a “Works Cited” slide to show college readiness. Apply this checklist if it helps.
