Advanced Academics and Talent Development

"Advanced Academics" logo with tree imageWelcome to Advanced Academics at H-B Woodlawn!  Please take a look through the helpful links in the menu on the left to discover more about what HBW has to offer our growing scholars.  Formerly known as the Office of Gifted Services, our name changed in August 2023 to the Office of Advanced Academics and Talent Development to better reflect the inclusive nature of the Talent Development Model Arlington Public Schools follows. The title is a better reflection of what we’ve done for years here in Arlington.

I’m Liz Waters, your Advanced Academics Coach.  I joined the staff at HB Woodlawn in 2006 as a French teacher, and also served as an English teacher before becoming the RTG in 2011.  For the past several years I have also been teaching AP Psychology.

The Advanced Academics Coach (AAC) provides support to the classroom teachers in the instruction of gifted and advanced children and the differentiation of curriculum to challenge the potential of all students. The K-12 AACs engage classroom teachers in an instructional cluster model that includes co-planning, collaborative teaching, and one-on-one professional development focused of specific gifted instructional methodology.
