2019 Chorus Auditions

2019 HBW Chorus Auditions

Well done you for wanting to audition for Camerata or Chamber Singers next year! This year’s audition piece is next year’s All-District Chorus audition piece, so you will get a jump on learning it!  This also means that all people who wish to audition are starting from the same position – not knowing this song.  Your successful preparation will be an indicator of what you will bring to next year’s choral ensembles.

The audition will consist of:

  • Vocal warm-ups/range exercises
  • Pitch matching
  • Singing “My Country Tis of Thee”
  • Singing Thomas Arne’s “Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind”
  • Sight Reading

To help you prepare, here are some resources:

  1. Click here to see note and words to “My Country Tis of the Thee
  2. To prepare “Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind,”, click this LINK, and scroll to the bottom of the page to find Sheet Music and the Audio Files (accompaniment tracks). (Note: you may chose whichever voice part is most comfortable for you.  You are will not be judged based on soprano, alto, tenor or bass, so chose the part that you feel you sing the best!)
  3. For an example of how “Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind” sounds, listen to this YouTube track(Note: this singer sings two verses, but you are only asked to sing one.  Also, you will be accompanied by a piano, rather than a harpsichord as you hear on the YouTube performance.)
  4. To practice your sight reading skills, click here to download many sight reading examples.  Another resource is Sightreadingfactory.com.  This site requires a paid subscription, but you can practice up to 20 examples for free.
